Our Initiatives.
The Index.
One of our core aims is to develop a distributed, independent record of police engagement with civilians in the united states. Simply put, we want to record the observations of private citizens in addition to the claims made by law enforcement officers. We plan to work with civilian oversight agencies, attorneys, and journalists to build a validated and shared set of data while preserving the privacy of American citizens.
The Organization.
The National Police Data Coalition was founded by a group of people interested in using data to further the public interest in safe communities. We’re working to expand that community through events that invite discussion and bring diverse individuals together around a common cause. We seek to identify common challenges and build the technology and infrastructure needed to overcome them.
